Ostermärkte

One of the things I love about spring in Vienna is visiting the Easter markets. I can ever own enough of the beautiful hand-painted eggs. I enjoy them so much that I leave them out year round – totally against tradition, but that’s OK because they make me smile.

Frühling in Wien

Spring is here. Well, sort of. It’s been trying to be spring for a few weeks now, but winter keeps working to reclaim its territory. I went for a little walk on one of the sunny days.

Unintentional Hiatus

Wow, this little blog has been sorely neglected for the last couple of months. That’s what basketball season will do around here. I did try to work on some photography skills during basketball by shooting on manual as much as possible. I feel like the function I’ve learned the most about is the ISO setting. Not well enough to explain it to someone else yet, but I’m getting there! Here are a couple of my favorite shots from this season.

Family Fun

The challenge at I Heart Faces this week is “Family Fun.” I love, love, love this picture of my friends, the Lundquists. They let me take pictures of their family this fall, and the circus just happened to be in town. I love how giggly they all are in this photo!

Check out the rest of the fun families here:

View from the Flakturm

The Haus des Meeres is located in one of the old Flaktuerme from World War II. You can walk around the balcony of the Flakturm and get a 360 degree view of Vienna. It’s kind of awesome.

Haus des Meeres

We spent an afternoon at the Haus des Meeres (Vienna Aquarium). I decided that since there is no flash allowed, this might be a good opportunity to practice my manual focusing skills. It was a good exercise, and I got some fun shots. I think I like using the manual focus when shooting through glass and water. It gives me a bit more control. I still definitely need to practice this skill, not only to become better at focusing, but to be able to do it more quickly. I’m a lot slower at focusing than the creatures are at swimming. Especially those hammerhead sharks. Speedy suckers. Here are some of my favorite creature shots from the day.

Furry Faces

This week’s challenge over at I Heart Faces is “Furry Faces.” The photo doesn’t necessarily have to have a furry face, but it does need to be a photo of an animal. I’m sharing a photo of the little ladybug that kept me company during my early morning photo shoot.

You can see more furry faces here:
